Definition:Steampunk (n.): What began as a literary genre has since progressed to include fashion, music, movies, and other pop culture elements. All of these parts revolve around 19th century science fiction, which exhibits modern technology in use during the Victorian age.

Steampunk is a sub-culture derived from the Victorian philosophy and aesthetics when combined with the creativity and self-reliance of an adventurous lifestyle.

Romantically Apocalyptic is a 'cinematic comic' that, while more nuclear-holocaust than Steampunk, has a similar style and still carries the themes of self-reliance in face of adversity. (Plus it's a really awesome comic.) Deviant Art recently posted an article titled "Have You Met Zee Captain?" informing the community about this "Alexiuss Phenomenon".

Girl Genius is an 'epic graphic novel' (I call it a web comic) and is a good foundation for those experiencing Steampunk for the first time.
